Assignment 5 Colage

1. I thought up the idea. i knew i wanted something dark and with a spiraling stair case definitely black and white, very Tim Burton.

2. I began to gather. the images and like I should have expected I found nothing that i wanted. so I settled for a bunch of 3rd and 6th bests

3. I started with my first image on a withered forest

4. Then I added the image of the clouds and the lighter image of the forest because the trees are more prominent

5. I like the white glow but i feel it implies hope and i want to make it more ominous so I put the forest on top of it but showed it by separating the lighter forest. 

6. after some trial and error I decided to change the image to blue and white like the first image instead of black and white like i originally intended.

7. I used a mask and soft brush to merge the images together

8. I added a gradient on the white to blend better with the clouds dark bottoms

9. The original image and the lighter forest didn't have tree tops so i found an image of a tree and used the top to complete the trees so the image wouldn't look so awkward.

10. i added in the moon

11. then i changed its color

12. there was a lot of work on the person i didn't screenshot but basically i added shadow and cast shadow using a black brush on a layer with lower opacity. i added highlights using color dodge mode. and used color balance to make it blue like the rest of the image.

Coloring Sketch

This is another attempt at coloring in a sketch. I found that when I draw lightly and ink in my work then use an eraser and play with the scanner settings my line work comes out better but still nothing compared to what I've seen Illustrator and do.

After reading and watching a few tutorials I got a better grasp of applying shadows and lighting digitally used brush hardness and softness and also speeding up coloring using selections and the paint bucket.

 

All in all I'm still unsatisfied tutorials can only teach but so much and this still looks nothing like the works I've blogged about earlier.

Assignment 4: Beauty Retouching

This is the image I started with

Her skin was rough so my first step is to clear this up

I selected her hand and face because they are the most prominent shapes.

Now I want to lighten her eyes.

Her eyes aren't quite what i had in mind but i feel they look better than before.

Next I wanted to add piercings I personally find them aesthetically pleasing and I've found some cool brushed that make them.

Next i wanted to add a hand tattoo because her hand seemed to plain to be in the forefront of the picture.

Lastly i changed her hair color and darkened her skin and brightened the background to add a nice contrast

 

Pen tool

I recently tried to illustrate something in Illustrator and is was a disaster. I looked online to try to find a way to clean up my line art and was suggested the pen tool in Photoshop. while I found it entirely too slow and just inept for drawings I used it to rework some clothing artwork I designed some time ago. here is how it turned out.

Assignment 3: Paradise

Paradise by definition is a place of peace, prosperity, and happiness, where order and preservation exist in place of the chaos and destruction of human society. My paradise is depicted as he ultimate paradise for religious believers, Heaven. In my design Heaven is individualized, each Man his own Eden, king of his own world. A world where Man may embrace the 7 cardinal sins as reward for his life of virtuous behavior. It is also specific to his personality and desires. But for one too have Heaven there must be a Hell, the punishment for those who lived their lives [sinful]. To be honest I’d feel cheated to have lived my life righteously and only a heaven existed. So in the same respect as the Heaven everyone’s torture inst the same, so a customized construct of Heaven/Hell would be my paradise. Just knowing thy existed would be paradise to me.

1st Attempt

This is a drawing that I did that i scanned into my picture in an attempt to color it in similar to the BLEEDMAN picture I posted about earlier in my blog.

Seeing as I had no idea what I'm doing this is the result. It took me about 7 hrs and i am highly disappointed. I'll come back to it once I learn about Photoshops coloring capabilities or Illustrator for the line art; which I personally feel is more important.  

Assignmnet 3: Seclection tool

Here I start with the original image. I'm assuming from "National Treasure". 

Next I apply a mask and use the magnetic laso tool to select the part of the image I want to keep.

 Then I use the paint bucket tool to fill in the selection black and make the area transparent

After repeating that process a few times on various pictures and copying and pasting I have the finished product below.
